40k Terrain for 2011 — What’s coming up?

Warhammer Armies Ork Trukk 05 300x225 40k Terrain for 2011 Whats coming up?I’m on a business trip and not getting much work done on my 40k Terrain projects. That doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to them when I get back home. In the mean time, being away gives a chance to step back and think about what I want to do in 2011. Here are my anticipated accomplishments for the upcoming year, all of which I’ll share with you as the year develops.

  • Play more – One thing I need to do this year is just plain play more. Right now, while I get lots of projects done, I’m lucky if I get in playing one Warhammer game a month between both 40k and WFB. I’d love to get this up to one game of each a week this year. If I do, I’ll highlight the terrain in the games on 40k Terrain here!
  • Cities of Death – I’m way psyched about the Cities of Death terrain I’m working on. I started over the holidays – I’ve got the MDF bases cut out for barricades and other obstacles, and I also made a whole bunch of rubble from polystyrene. I want to start on these because I think the thing that really makes Cities of Death terrain feel right is the rubble within ruins. I want to refine my techniques before I get started in earnest. In 2011, I will create a modular 4×8 foot city with multiple levels, several buildings, and at least one water feature.

  • Warhammer Fantasy Battles Terrain – 40k Terrain is focused on 40k, of course. However, Games Workshop does such fantastic work on WFB terrain, and so many of us play both games. I’d like to get one classic table together for WFB this year – something with fantastic Warhammer scenery.
  • Videos – I’ve been mainly doing written tutorials for you all. These are useful and still pictures are better for some things than motion video. However, motion video can be great, too. So, I will provide some Warhammer videos this year that show techniques for some of my projects.
  • Restructure the website – Finally, I’m going to change the way I do the 40k Terrain web site. I’m going to keep doing the blog posts – but keep the detail down on those a bit. Rather, I’ll do detailed tutorials (along with the videos) which will be on the other sections of the site. I’m hoping that this will make material easier for people to find and use. For example, look at the blog post on … versus the tutorial written up at …..

Of course, what these all boil down to is having great fun playing Warhammer with my friends and sharing great ideas here with you all. It’s going to be fun! I hope you all have a great year in 2011, too!
